My work originates in the study of calligraphy, utilizing letter-forms to create an abstract visual representation of a literal message. My current series of work utilizes the phrase i was here.

Every mark on the page is a letter-form, composing the words of a repeating phrase.  Although the message itself is important, my focus, through layer upon layer of writing, is on the structure and texture the repetition of a phrase creates visually.
